Combining the past with today: reconstructed wedding dress

Remember these ladies?

The silk organza nude number on the right was worn by Juliana’s grandmother on her wedding day. She had a delicate collar of ruffles and the prettiest lace patches placed sporadiocally on the under layer of the dress. The ivory all over lace get up was worn by Juliana for her and her husbands civil union back in the Spring! Juliana and her beau will be reciting their nuptials for the entire family in Colorado infront of the most insanely gorgeous backdrop you could ever see! (we’ll have to wait for those pics!) So using her chosen inspiration of retro beauty, I combined the two dresses into a spectacularly reminiscent modern wedding dress.

The ivory lace was used to create the illusion neckline and sleeve, as well as the two godets at the princess seams. The original design intergirty of the bodice was upheld, and the dainty lace patches were cut out of the fabric and hand applied along the hem of the skirt.

I used all of the original fabric, even to add more fullness as a layer under the existing crinoline.
