A Historic Reconstruction

On March 3rd, the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society held it’s first annual “Something Old, Something New” exhibit. The event was a “pop-up” styled exhibit lasting only one Sunday afternoon with antique wedding gowns on display, a famous retired photographer guest speaker and refreshments!
anatomy was there representing the “something new” with select gowns from our collection on display alongside the antique gowns. We also had a very special gown on display given to us to reconstruct to be inducted into the BECHS collection of antique gowns! Of course a contemporary piece isn’t quite as historic unless it begins with a story…
The executive director Melissa’s mother graciously donated her wedding gown to anatomy so we could create something more modern with it! Here’s the before…

The simple silhouette is elevated by the concentrated lace applique work at the waist. The organza is almost invisible, making the lace applique work appear to be floating!

We combined the train and the veil to become a detachable train with the original lace flowers along the hem.069_0 073_0

We are so excited to become a real part of Buffalo fashion history! If you missed the event be sure to come next year!
