Cristina’s satin wedding gown reconstruction turned out gorgeous for the Ugly Duck owner! Avid coffee lovers may have heard of the shop she co-owns with her hubby in Rochester, NY, where they reside with their two kiddos.
Cris brought in a vintage dress belonging to her aunt, and knew exactly what she wanted to do to it. The dress had so much history. She loved the lower half of the dress, the full circle satin skirt with the train. What wasn’t there to love? It was stunning!
Another special element of the skirt was the large bow at the center back. The waistband and the top, however, were a bit dated. It was too much for her slender frame. She came to me for a satin Ugly Duck wedding gown reconstruction, and I gave it to her.
Cris wanted a very clean, sleek and modern update for the top portion of the dress. She knew she wanted a high neck in the front with a low scoop in the back. For reference, it almost looks like a ballerina’s neckline.
The bride was also keen to have long sleeves with a little volume around the wrist. After that, we chose a silk chiffon over a silk georgette fabric.
There’s a difference in the fabrics that are seen ever so slightly along the neckline in the front and at the sleeves. In addition, there’s a slight gathering across the waistline where the skirt meets the new bodice.
After that, I topped on scalloped grosgrain ribbon, a heavy ribbed fabric, typically made of silk, as a belt. Cristina loved it. The bride looked like a classic beauty on her big day!
