Project Educate Fashion Show

L1020211

Last week’s Project Educate Fashion Show organized by the WNY Girls’ Schools Coalition was so inspiring. I sat in awe of everything these young girls had put together, from the runway to the raffles and silent auction. Before the show began, they each spoke with poise and eloquence about their very worthy cause—building a girls’ school in Pakistan. $8,000 (!!) later, I’m certain all their efforts will be appreciated.

The theme of the event was magic, a notion introduced by guest speaker Faizan Haq, president of the Pakistani- American Research and Information Center of Western New York and professor of Islamic Studies at the University at Buffalo. He spoke first of the magic we experience every day in our environment of relative privilege here in Buffalo before calling our attention to the beauty of the sunset over Lake Erie and the knowledge that across the world, in Pakistan, someone else had been observing the same sun just hours earlier. It was a fitting message for the evening—-a reminder that we’re all connected, and that we should always reach out to help.

On to the fashion show! Student designers Dylan Weis and Riley Featherston showed their collections first…

…followed by anatomy. The girls looked fantastic and you could tell by their walks that they felt fabulous 🙂 I couldn’t get pictures of everyone, mainly because it took about 20 trips down the runway for me to figure out how to take a picture of a moving target. I’m such a work in progress with this photography stuff. Ah well.
